Chris watched her face while she talked. He had no doubt she would find the culprit and make Lakeview safe once more for people to walk the streets. But he knew how precarious and delusional safety could be. "What if someone asked you to give up your job?"
She blinked at the change in subject. "Why would anyone ask me to do that?"
"I don't know. Maybe if they loved you, they'd be worried about you."
D.J. laughed and chose another breadstick. "If they loved me, they'd understand me. My job is my life. Without it I'm nothing. No one."
"Did your job come between you and your husband?"
